Get an Advocate
Advocates are there around the clock to support you during three parts of seeking help: the process of getting a SANE exam, reporting to police, or being interviewed by any District agency about what happened to you. They can also talk to you about your options and rights to help you decide on your next steps.
Advocates are there solely to support you, accompany you, and help you navigate this process. To reach an Advocate 24/7, call or text the DC Victim Hotline at 844-4HELPDC (844-443-5732) or visit their website here. If you are unsure about what next steps to take or you would like to speak with someone about what happened to you, visit Talk to Someone.
Advocates provide confidential services, but are mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect. For a full explanation of what this means for you, visit Resources on Confidentiality & Mandated Reporting.
